Intentional Adaptation

So much of our work at Perspective Guides involves helping our clients weather the strategic and emotional impacts of change. It’s difficult for groups to both be in the work of change and honor the hearts of those affected.

I recently facilitated a small group that explored how to approach change with integrity and humanity. The group shared their questions about the nature of the change, and I crafted a poem reflecting the key learnings of that group. I hope it can offer some helpful insights into a change you might face.

How Do We Intentionally Adapt?

We intentionally adapt with malleability.

Like a moth, through metamorphosis in the dark.

Honoring limits and boundaries.

We intentionally adapt with flexibility.

Like an octopus, from the intelligence of our bodies.

Asking, listening, responding.

We intentionally adapt with integrity.

Like a blind shrew, as close to the ground as possible.

One task at a time.

We intentionally adapt through fun.

Like playdough in hand, shaping, and molding.

Feeling into the twists and turns.

We intentionally adapt through moments of quiet.

Like an egg right before the hatch.

Sensing into our environment.

We intentionally adapt through inspiration.

Like the mountain in our hearts.

Always coming back to purpose.
